Selecting the right HR software can make or break the efficiency of your organization's people operations. With numerous platforms on the market, finding the right fit is critical. In this article, we benchmark HRlab as an alternative to SAP SuccessFactors, drawing on hands-on user data from the Heise Group's "Professional User Rating: Human Resources 2026" study.

Key Similarities
Both HRlab and SAP SuccessFactors deliver modern, cloud-native HR architectures designed to support organizations across core people operations:
- Employee master data management and digital personnel files
- Talent acquisition and applicant tracking (ATS)
- Absence and leave management
- Time tracking and overtime administration
- HR analytics and workforce reporting
- Digital document management and employee self-service (ESS)
While core capabilities overlap, the study highlights critical distinctions in usability, functional depth across individual modules, and the quality of vendor-level support. Standardized index scores across each criterion allow HR leaders to compare both platforms on an objective footing.
About the Study
For the "Professional User Rating: Human Resources 2026," Heise Group surveyed 5,940 HR practitioners and corporate users actively running these platforms in their day-to-day work. The benchmark evaluated both the vendors as partners and the operational capabilities of their software solutions across two main pillars:
- Company Rating (Vendor Evaluation): Innovation velocity, customer service quality, commercial/pricing models, and enablement/training resources.
- Technology Rating (Solution Evaluation): Core functional features, day-to-day business utility/ROI, long-term user satisfaction, and product loyalty.
A total of roughly 60 individual criteria across 12 categories feed into the final results. Crucially, all feedback comes from practitioners with direct operational experience, providing an authentic assessment of real-world software performance.
Only top-performing vendors are featured in the proprietary PUR Diamond matrix, which categorizes providers into three performance tiers:
- Balanced Vendors: Providers whose scores across vendor and solution dimensions are evenly matched.
- High Performers: Vendors scoring above market average across both dimensions, delivering strong performance just below Champion tier.
- Champions: Top-tier market leaders that significantly exceed high benchmark thresholds across both vendor and solution dimensions.
In the 2026 evaluation, HRlab was once again awarded Champion status, while SAP SuccessFactors ranked as a High Performer.
Update 2027: HRlab Named Champion Once Again
In the Professional User Rating: Human Resources 2027 study conducted by techconsult, 39 Cloud HR Suite providers were evaluated directly from practical application. As a result of the PUR Diamond 2027 rating, the study—and the users themselves—awarded HRlab the title of "Champion" for the third time.

Vendor Evaluation: Where HRlab Wins as an SAP Alternative
The vendor rating reflects how practitioners perceive HRlab and SAP SuccessFactors as enterprise technology partners. Key evaluation areas include innovation momentum—how consistently a vendor develops enhancements and evolves its roadmap—and solution portfolio breadth, measuring the range of native HR modules and ecosystem integrations.
The Service and Support domain examines service delivery across responsiveness, consulting expertise, issue escalation, documentation quality, and sandbox/demo accessibility. The Channel & Implementation Partners category assesses:
- Local partner availability through an established channel ecosystem
- Pre-sales consultants' discovery expertise and business requirements scoping
- Ability to architect tailored, company-specific solutions
- The evaluation also incorporates digital transparency, ESG/sustainability initiatives, commercial pricing and licensing models, and training/onboarding offerings.
Of particular significance for HR decision-makers is Vendor Satisfaction in the Solution Context, which measures:
- Does the software deliver on its functional promises?
- Would current users purchase the solution again?
- Would users actively recommend the vendor to peers?

|---|---|---|
| Innovation | 70.8 | 60.1 |
| Product Portfolio Breadth | 69.4 | 60.2 |
| Service & Support | 75.6 | 60.4 |

Solution Evaluation: Software Execution in Daily Operations
The solution rating examines how effectively each platform performs under day-to-day operational conditions, focusing on core software capabilities, business value, and product loyalty:
- Core Capabilities: Functional depth of essential HR modules, GDPR compliance, UI/UX intuitiveness, built-in analytics and reporting, open REST APIs, automated updates, total cost predictability, and long-term future-readiness.
- Business Value & ROI: How effectively the platform streamlines administrative workflows, accelerates HR productivity, frees up operational capacity, enhances workforce transparency, and supports employee engagement and retention.
- Product Loyalty: Overall user satisfaction, repurchase intention, and referral likelihood.

Conclusion
The benchmark results demonstrate that HRlab achieves consistently higher index scores than SAP SuccessFactors across every evaluated category.
In the vendor assessment, HRlab establishes its strongest leads in Customer Service & Support, Pricing & Subscription Transparency, and Vendor Satisfaction in the Solution Context. With an aggregate vendor score of 658.3 vs. 549.3 points, HRlab demonstrates substantially higher customer satisfaction in ongoing vendor partnership.
This advantage extends to daily platform usage. Across core functional depth, day-to-day administrative relief, and long-term customer loyalty, HRlab outperforms SAP SuccessFactors with an aggregate solution score of 230.6 vs. 198.7 points. The findings indicate that mid-market HR teams often experience HRlab as more agile, user-friendly, and cost-effective than heavyweight enterprise legacy suites. Ultimately, selecting the right solution still depends on your organization's specific technical ecosystem, global scale, and operational requirements.
